Effective religious fundraising requires theological integrity, and lots of imagination. As we lead our congregations and communities with new practices, there are some questions that might guide our preaching toward cultures of generosity and out of scarcity. This session aims to engage in a facilitated conversation to gather attendees’ feedback on key questions in crafting sermons and deepening theological language shaped by expectations of sufficiency, abundance, and hope when addressing questions of money in religious organizations.    


Dr. Carlos W. Perkins is Assistant Research Scientist and Associate Director of Engagement in the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy at Lake Institute of Faith and Giving. Carlos is an ordained clergy with the African Methodist Episcopal Church and serves as the senior pastor of Bethel Cathedral AME Church, the oldest black congregation in Indianapolis.
