Assembly Highlights – Annual Assembly

The Synod of the Covenant Annual Assembly met at Christ Presbyterian Church on November 3-4, 2017. The following officers were elected and installed:

Moderator: RE Johanna Jozwiak (Lake Huron Presbytery)

Vice-Moderator: Rev. Aaron Meadows (Eastminster Presbytery)

Stated Clerk: Rev. David Bartley (Maumee Valley Presbytery)

Living out the Synod’s identity as a Just-Peace Church the Assembly opened with a seminar on Christian-Muslim Relations, presented by International Partners from Indonesia who participated in the Mission to the USA 2017 program: Dr. Leonard Chrysostomos, Rev. Dr. Jozef M.N. Hehanussa, Rev. Kade Mastra, Rev. Dr. Minda Perangin, and Rev. Hendri Sendjaja. Synod will continue with this focus for the coming two years.

The Synod dedicated the offering to plant 21 olive trees in Palestine (Keep Hope Alive Campaign — – and invites Presbyterians to send donations until the end of November to increase the number of trees to be planted in the name of the Synod ($20/tree).

Grants & Scholarship Committee reported that the Synod awarded 5 New Covenant Grants ($24,750) and 55 Higher Education Scholarship ($50,000).

Assembly approved renewing the covenant relationship with Alma College, College of Wooster, and Muskingum University. The Leadership Committee continues to review the relationship with five Presbyterian related institutions, and plan leadership events for 2018.

The Assembly approved  the 2018 budget of $761,764 for 2018.  The Per Capita for 2019 will remain at $3.25 per member.

Assembly also received reports from the Executive, Stated Clerk, Treasurer, Moderators Committee, Board of Trustees, Administrative Commission for Mackinac Presbytery, and CECA.
