Performing the Word…Online

Jan 5, 2022 : 10:00 -11:30 am by Zoom

Delivery of online sermons involves skills and ‘muscles’ that are new to many preachers. This workshop will explore a few of them, applying communication theory — as well as approaches used by actors, orators and television performers — to the task. You want your sermons to fly through cyberspace and not just dribble down the front of the screen? Join us as we explore tips, techniques and spiritual practices designed to strengthen online preaching.

Facilitator:  The Rev. Dr. Jana L. Childers

The Rev. Dr. Jana L. Childers is Professor of Homiletics and Speech Communication at San Francisco Theological Seminary at the University of Redlands. A Presbyterian minister who served congregations in New Jersey and Kansas before joining the seminary faculty, she holds degrees from Wheaton College, Princeton Theological Seminary and the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, California. Dr. Childers’ scholarly work focuses on the performance or delivery end of preaching. She is the author of numerous books and articles, a popular conference speaker and was featured on the Hallmark Channel’s Great Preachers series.
