Latest Happenings in the Cultivating the Gift of Preaching Initiative

We’ve had a relaxing and restful Christmas and New Year’s break in the Synod offices, and we hope you have too. We are ready (well maybe not that ready) to get back to work!

Prior to the break, several of our CGPI participants, mentors, and staff enjoyed putting together the synod’s virtual 12/29 worship service, which I hope many of you enjoyed. That service is still available on the Synod’s YouTube page – as the director of CGPI I am particularly proud of the fine work from our participants and mentors! If you are so inclined, I encourage you to take the time to watch the service and see the many talents that God has given to leaders across our Synod.

As we start the New Year, our four CGPI cohort groups will be meeting in person. They’ve been meeting monthly online since July, and they are looking forward to meeting in person to further hone their preaching skills and share their adventures in preaching with their peers!

Finally, it is worth noting that the application process for the 2025-2026 CGPI cohorts is live. The second round of emerging preachers will begin the program this June 12-16 at Alma College, where they will join the current participants for lectures, workshops, and small groups, on preaching, exegesis, and Reformed theology and worship. If you know of anyone, perhaps you yourself (!), who is discerning a call to proclaim the Good News in service of Jesus and his Church, please do be in touch as I or any of the Synod staff would love to talk to you and answer any questions about our Cultivating the Gift of Preaching Initiative. Please email me or go to our website. The application itself can be found here.

Happy New Year!

Matt
