Advent is a time when we are called to share with one another and with the world, our hope and trust that our Savior will return to make the world anew, to put an end to suffering, weeping, and death, that we might live with him eternally. While we wait, we should also trust and hope that Jesus will continue to serve and provide for his Church by raising up and equipping leaders so that the people of God might, in the words of John the Baptist (Luke 3) “bear good fruit” in the world. To that end, we in the Synod Office would like to remind you that we are now receiving applications for the second year of the Cultivating the Gift of Preaching Initiative, our Lilly grant funded lay preacher training program. Our first class of 20 participants are nearly a third done with the program and we have a host of testimonies about the program to share with you.
Here, please find a video testimony from Judy Mitchell describing her experience in the program and her overview of what she and the other participants have done so far. Judy is from the Presbytery of Western Reserve and serves as their stated clerk.
