Called Meeting of the Synod of the Covenant Assembly

 

Per provision of Article 60:20 of the Synod of the Covenant bylaws, the Moderator, Elder Andy Thorburn, is calling a special meeting of the Synod Assembly on Tuesday, March 18, 2025 at 4:30 p.m. via Zoom for the following purposes:

 

  • To approve the recommended changes to the Synod of the Covenant Bylaws.

  • To approve the Position Description for the Treasurer

  • To approve the Finance Committee Description

  • To approve the call to the Synod of the Covenant Associate for Racial Justice and to approve the 2025 terms of call for the same.

SOC Bylaws

60:20 Special meetings may be called under the provisions of the Form of Government [G-3.0405]. The Moderator shall call a special meeting when deemed necessary or when requested by three ruling elders and three teaching elders representing at least three different presbyteries. Should the Moderator be unable to act, then the Vice Moderator or stated clerk may issue the call.

 

60:30 Notice of a special meeting shall be sent out not less than seven days in advance to each commissioner, presbytery leader, stated clerk, and presbytery.

 

60:40 The Synod Leadership Committee shall have responsibility for selecting the time and place for synod assemblies and if meetings are to occur in person or by electronic meeting media.

G-3.0405 Meetings and Quorum

The synod shall hold stated meetings at least biennially, shall meet at the direction of the General Assembly, and may call special meetings in accordance with its own rules. A synod may set its own quorum, but it shall include an equal number of ruling elders and ministers of the Word and Sacrament representing at least three presbyteries or

one-third of its presbyteries, whichever is larger.
